Your designer
Lesley Payne’s interest in design was fired when studying technical drawing in school. After beginning her working life in purchasing she changed direction in 1994 when a kitchen company retained her to design and sell kitchens. Feeling restricted by the company’s sourcing policy she and a colleague set up a partnership. This enabled her to widen her scope to include bedroom and bathroom design. However, listening to clients, she soon realised that they were often looking for more extensive advice, which the company was not able to offer. So to add to her experience and knowledge she then worked with a design company which included interior design in their brief and so gained further knowledge of fabrics, colours etc. after which she felt sufficiently competent to use all her wide range of skill to work independently, so Freedom Interiors was born.
She gained a good knowledge of the technical aspects of design by tackling the practical tasks of plumbing and electrical installation. Her work has encompassed fitting kitchens and bathrooms, creating gardens and designing stylish decoration. However the highlight of her labours is always when she can step back and at last turn her hard work into a professional job with the finishing touches. To back up a host of practical experience, Lesley is currently studying for a Regent Academy diploma in Interior Design.
Although Lesley has been with in the industry for some time, she is better known under her previous name Lesley Murphy. Marrying in May 2003 to the lovely Jon she is slowly being recognised under her married name Payne.
Lesley believes that in order to design effectively it is necessary to get to know a client’s personality and lifestyle. |
